Gardening on Guildford's soils
Guildford sits where the chalk of the North Downs meets the sandy greensand to the south, with clay in lower areas along the River Wey. That means very different conditions from one garden to the next. Chalky gardens in Merrow and on the Downs dry out fast and suit lime-loving plants. Sandy gardens towards Shalford and Bramley need more watering and feeding. Clay gardens can waterlog in winter. We choose plants, lawn care and drainage to suit your garden.
Working in the Surrey Hills and conservation areas
Parts of Guildford and the surrounding villages lie in the Surrey Hills National Landscape or in conservation areas, where materials and tree work need extra care. We choose materials that fit the local character and will advise when you may need to check with Guildford Borough Council first.
We also cover the nearby towns of Godalming, Woking and Cranleigh.
